Oreamuno de Cartago

Oreamuno is a fresh and beautiful Costa Rican canton located northeast of the city of Cartago at Irazú Volcano feet.

This site is characterized by an intensive production of horticultural foods such as potatoes, onions, carrots, cassava and lettuce. This is an important part of Carthaginian economy.

In this canton are three of the great contributions for Costa Rica’s world tourism:

The Irazú Volcano: Here’s where the Irazú Volcano National Park is located with its impressive craters accessible to visitors. It is easy to reach. It’s connected with the city of Cartago and the Greater Metropolitan Area.

The Durán Sanatorium: Legendary hospital located 7 km from the city of Cartago declared as historical-architectural heritage of Costa Rica. It was built thanks to the initiative of Dr. Carlos Durán Cartín in order to attend people with tuberculosis.

Prussia Park: A charming forest with 16 km of trails with abundant in vegetation and wildlife. It’s part of the Irazú Volcano National Park. It is a peaceful meditative place and the site where the Reventado River is born. This place has areas for picnics and a beautiful panoramic view of the city of Cartago.

The Volcano, the Durán Sanatorium, the Prussia Park, the fields and the towns combine to strengthen the tourist attraction of Oreamuno de Cartago; but in the local economy there are also other important sectors such as the heavy industry and services.
